Coming Sunday, July 4th: 5th Annual Block Party at The Strand
What with so many Independence Day celebrations moving to Saturday, 03 July, this year, we figured we (along with The Strand Theatre) would celebrate The Strand's Fifth Grand Reopening Anniversary on The Fourth itself. And what a celebration it'll be: a 1 p.m. block party, complete with refreshments and surprises, followed by the classic 1958 musical South Pacificbeautifully, colorfully restored. What's more, we'll be presenting the sing-along version!
We'll also have our usual prizes and giveaways, and attendees are as usual encouraged to dig into their closets for costumesin this case, their best Polynesian attire.
So mark your calendars: July 4th, 2010, in Rockland, our 1 p.m. Block Party followed by South Pacific at 3 p.m. at The Strand.

A Kung Fu Classic
On 25 October 2009, we co-hosted (along with The Farnsworth Art Museum) our third annual autumn performance by the inimitable Devil Music Ensemble, the three-man sound machine that provides inspiring, custom-made scores for some of the most magical movies of the silent era. This year it was the Chinese film Red Heroine (1929), the last surviving episode of a popular serial made at the height of the martial arts craze in 1920s Shanghai.
