Mark it down: July 6, 2008. A West Side Story party is coming to the Strand Theatre in downtown Rockland.
Mark it down: 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., a New York City–themed block party on Main Street, complete with free hotdogs and lemonade, street entertainment, finned autos for atmosphere, and plenty of '50s-period costumes.
But don't miss the main event at 6 p.m.! There'll best costume awards to hand out, drawings for prizes, "WSS" trivia, and more. Plus, of course, the Academy Awards–winning blockbuster musical from a more innocent American era.

Blade Runner a Rousing Success
Hardy a seat could be had at the Strand Theatre on May 31, 2008, as our screening (on an appropriately rainy night) of the remastered "final cut" of the tech noir classic Blade Runner was a resounding good time.

Red Carpet, 2008
On 24 February, 2007, the Saltwater Film Society and The Strand Theatre co-hosted our first fun-filled Oscars® Party at Rockland's historic Main Street theater. Despite short notice and nippy temperatures, a good-sized, well-dressed crowd came early, stayed late, and in between made a little noise while enjoying a jumbo version of Hollywood's biggest award ceremony.
SFS cinephiles Elizabeth McLeod and Gordon MacLachlan engaged in friendly banter, provided a running commentary, awarded prizes, and led our own version of "Stump the Chump" (a.k.a., Gordon) in what is sure to be a free annual event.

 Monday MovieTalk
Join The Saltwater Film Society for Monday MovieTalk, typically held the second Monday of each month at the Strand Theatre in Rockland, Maine. Each Monday MovieTalk film will be introduced by a special guest speaker, who will stay to lead a casual half-hour discussion of the film afterward.
